I really get excited when once in a while I get to do exclusive product. This time I get to make gift boxes out of genuine songket. These are for a friend of Red Songket, a gift shop in Penang.

A piece of 'samping' can clad 2 big boxes. Cutting the songket is tricky as I want to use most the gold thread woven area.

Recently Omar got me an iPad for my internet activities, which inspire me to make a big bag. With this bag I can make room for my iPad and many other things.

For this design I use a pale grey full grain leather for the handles and trimmings. Chah comes with inter changeable handles. Bag closes with a magnetic button.

Hand handle is made of round rolled leather. Bag measures L 45cm x H 33 cm x W 13 cm.

This is the first bag done, I still need to improve the dimension and finishings.

I also made matching wallets to match the Rohani bags. Instead of patching different fabric, I cut and patched the same fabric. I like the effect of the shadow, texture and stitching lines.

It is fun to have the ability to make these, and the fact that my sisters like them so much.

I have promised myself to produce as many as possible for my trip back to Shah Alam in June. Until last week I only manage to have these done. I decided to make Fav in patchwork fabric and a beautiful pink material.

First time when I saw this fabric I already knew the bag that I want to make. I can only imagine it, in the elegant silhouette of Fav. This time I accompanied the bag with matching notebooks.

Made these book myself the way that I want, so that they can fit the covers that I've made.

After completing the first Harry,..I was inspired to make 3 more colors,...colors from the same charm-pack.

I like this olive green so much, matching it with other colors to get the effect that I want was difficult, but the end result is satisfying.

Hi everybody,..this is my first design for 2011. I needed a new wallet and so I made this. My ideal wallet must be spacious enough to hold things that I just have to carry along everywhere.I named this wallet Harry,..in memory of my lovely cat.

Alia needed a big bag for everything so we decided on this design. Simple, no fuss and lots of space inside. Currently studying, Alia needs to carry lots of stuff in and out,....and this bag will do the job just fine.

The shoulder straps and trimmings are dark brown leather. Bag closes with a 5mm. zipper and a broad leather strap with a magnetic button.

Motifs on the fabric are positioned symmetrically. Bag has a full leather base for durability and easy upkeep. Bag measures L 18 3/4" x H 15" x W 7 1/2". Really spacious,.. fits everything easily.

Colors of Life

I was on an assignment last month that kept me really busy and excited. I was requested to design a whole collection of bags for a fashion show. Designing with the material given to me was quite a challenge, but the outcome make me smile.

These are the material that I was working with. The colors represent the colors of nature. Green :- Forest Blue :- Ocean and Sky Orange:- Sun

No. 1: This is the first bag that I made as an ice breaker :- getting to know the color, feeling the texture and working on the combination of the 4 colors.This design is simple and modern as the colors are already strong.

Handle and sling strap are of black leather and hardwares are of antique brass.

N0. 2. For the 2nd design, I did some embroidery of traditional batik motif on the orange fabric. Colors of the embroidery thread are the same with the theme colors. Took me quite a while to complete it. Omar likes it so much, mm.... it was worth my effort.

I decided to make this bag a soft floppy tote to reflect warmth. The brown leather trimming helps to hold the structure of the bag. This bag have 2 handle; shoulder strap and a long sling strap.

A closer look at the embroidery. French knots made up little Bunga Tanjung scattered all over among a bouquet of Melor Cina.

No. 3. The 3rd design is a patchwork hobo. It was interesting to
make this bag, got me working on color and proportion. I used some brown on this bag to tone down the strong colors. On this bag I got to used my new Brother machine for the over stitching on the patches.

The strap is made of a combination of cotton strap and leather. Something new in my design.

N0. 4. The 4th design is a simple bucket shape but with a sophisticated fabric patchwork. The patchwork was design with the landscape lines in mind. The black base represent the earth, green - forest, blue - sky/sea, orange - the sunlight.

This bag comes also with a detachable sling strap. I like the look of the strap together, it gives that glamour and luxury appeal.

No. 5. This bag is simple and practical. It is suitable for shopping. The lining close up with a draw string and can be pull up to create extra space for emergency. Handles sewn on to the lining can hold up additional height.

All 5 bags together. I am happy and satisfied with the outcome of my effort.

Red velvet

The month of September and October was a busy box making time for me, meeting datelines and conducting box making classes.

It makes me smile of happiness, when my friends call me up, telling me that they are progressing with their box making projects.

After all that, I reward myself with this beautiful velvet round box.

With Khaled's help, cutting the board, I manage to make this round box.

Box measures 24 cm in diameter, 9 cm in height. I added floral tapestry and velvet ribbon to make it more attractive.

Love it, and now I'm inspired to do more. More interesting shape boxes ..... in mind.

Introducing N. Campbell.

Noraini came back from England and brought this beautiful Laura Ashley, which she then passed to me. I made it into this bag so that she can take it back home to England, last 1st December.

I made this bag conveniently big for her travel.

N. Campbell comes with 2 strap :- Short shoulder strap and a long sling strap.

With this bag, I used the spring round loop. Both straps are detachable, one can choose to wear them anyhow.

It's been a while since I last posted. These boxes was made in August. I used hand made banana fiber paper for cladding.

This time the banana paper are all of natural colour.

Medium size box with inside trays. Boxes lid are decorated with "batik" insert. The interior are also in "batik". Box measures 15 cm x 23 cm x 7.5 cm.

Because of the natural color I was inspired to work with leather on this project. It turn out nice. Boxes are trimmed with 1 inch leather strap and buckle / magnetic strap clasp. Boxes measures 30 cm x 23 cm x 7.5 cm.

Here I used "batik" and leather combination to decorate. Boxes measures 30 cm x23 cm x7.5 cm.

The small boxes I used colored banana paper to trim. Boxes measures 10 cm x 10 cm x 5 cm.

Jam

Jam wanted a new bag from me, and I already have a design in mind for her. She gave me a reason to work on something that I've been wanting to make. It's a classic messenger bag,..evergreen design I would say. And so this design is officially named 'Jam'.

Jam and I chose this classic rose print. It was difficult to pick one out of those hundreds of beautiful fabric but we agreed with this one. This classic vintage cut is in my interest at the moment and I am happy on how the print and the design help me to achieved my goal.

Making the patterns was not a difficult task but preparing the fabric and stitching was tough. I spent a whole week on this one. The patterns need some modification and hopefully the next Jam will be smooth sailing.

Jam have 3 closure device,..twist turn nob in the middle and magnetic clasp on each side which are attached to the buckle strap.
All leather trimmings are dark coffee and hardwares are antique.

The side panels are gathered and riveted. A piece of leather strap helps to hold it together.

Bag measures 11 1/2 " L, 5 1/2" W, 9 1/2" H.
Very spacious inside with the necessary pockets and compartments.

Jam have a long sling strap that can also be worn cross-body and also a simple hand handle on the top.

I hope my sister, Jam will like it.

Aida - a pop of color

I'm really happy and excited to share my latest project.
Last week I posted prototype Aida,...after some modification I finally manage to produce Aida in 4 solid color.

I've made 2 different length for the sling strap, the shorter length is just nice for a petite lady like myself. The longer strap measuring 48" and the shorter strap is 39"

The corners of the flap is slightly straight and sharper compared to the prototype.

The top side is folded and being held by 1 1/4" round loop,...which also hold the sling strap.

Here I used p.u piping along the seam,...had some difficulties sewing it initially,... but got the problem solved and I am very happy with the result.

The hand handle is being held by a strap sewn along the top of the flap,..secured with 9mm antique rivets.

A new design that I managed to complete last week. This bag was inspired while on a trip back to K.L. Managed to spend some quality time with Kak Noy and family, Jam and Aida.
Driving back to Penang, I was thinking to name this bag Aida, to remind me of the wonderful time I had.

The red canvas that I used here,...have that linen look, hence it gives a casual smart appearance.
The closure is a twist lock on dark brown leather trimming. The patterns of this bag is the same as Fav,..but here,.. I sew in piping in the seam. The piping gives a more defined a structured body.

I like the idea of multiple handles in Ayu,..so I made Aida with 2 functional handles.
This short hand handle is double fold 3/4" witdth, trimmed with brass hardwares.

As all my other bags,..this bag interior have a zip pocket, an open and a mobile pocket.

A long sling leather strap,.. 1" width.
I am really happy with the outcome of Aida,...but still there are some modification to be made . There will be changes on the flap outline shape and the hand handle.

Already 50% done , now in the process of preparing the straps. Will post them on the blog when they're ready.

Dark Chocolate Ayu

This dark chocolate Ayu is for a friend,...and anyway I need an excuse to play around with this material. Previously I've made Ayu with similar material but of different color combination. Somehow this Ayu,.... reminds me of dark moist chocolate,......yum yum yummy.

Siti's reason to have Ayu in this dark color is because she wants easy maintenance. Tak cepat kotor.

For this Ayu I left out the long sling strap as requested by Siti. Simple and smart for her. Less fussy.

Full leather base for easy maintenance and durability.

Will come out with more exciting designs,
just wait and see......

Having made 5 Ayu bags with the patchwork fabric,...I am curious to see one in a mono fabric.
These 2 Ayus was done by mid-February.

Turquoise background with woven patterns. Material has a slight sheen which contributes a little luxury look.

Early years in Penang,... I got myself busy into making little boxes as small gifts, for any special occasions. My boxes were well received and I started making new friends. I even started to get request for boxes of bigger sizes and various dimensions. I also get to experiment the cladding with different type of materials. I am happy and thinking,.... life won't be so bad here after all.

Below are the first few boxes that I made. These boxes are small but they make charming little gifts.

5 different colors of my favourite material, which I used again later for my handbags.

Made this for teacher's day. I fill it up with yummy chocolate.
Measures - 7 cm x 15 cm x 4.5 cm.

I came across these beautiful velvet material in Kamdar. Made them into these square boxes,..10 cm x 10 cm x 4. 5 cm.
Lovely idea for wedding favours,... with a thick slice of delicious fruit cake inside.

Thru' the years my crafts have help to keep me busy and happy. :)

Indian Cotton

I'm taking a break from bag making this week,....I'm going to make some tops and dresses for me and the girls.
Till now,.. I still cut out and save images that inspires from all sources. I will then paste them in a scrap book or on my mood board, so that I can view them at any time conveniently.

I've got labels like LV, Tracy Reese, Hugo Boss, Peter Lim, Escada on this mood board. I like to pick up the lovely details and apply them on my own creation.The decorative details such as pin-tucks, applique and embroidery are very interesting and they could easily be applied on.

Recently I acquired a few pieces of lovely Indian Cotton. Alin, took us to this home boutique in PJ and ohh.... wow what a collection there is before my eyes. Every pieces are unique and beautiful and they cover the walls and floor. We spend hours to choose,.. luckily there are 4 of us to discuss and vote on which to take home. These pieces may not be suitable for the ideas on the mood board but I like to share them with you,...anyway.

Wedding Gifts

On February 14th, I went to my friend, Jun, wedding reception for her two elder sons. It was a simple yet lovely ceremony, at the new Naza hotel , Tangjung Bungah. I went with my whole family,-- managed to persuade Omar to come along.

After making the Yasin covers for Alin, gave me the idea how to present my gifts for wedding couples. I used the same velvet material for the gifts.

A lovely book of guidance, befitting a new couple starting a new chapter of life together. I made a beautiful book cover of embroidered velvet with organza ribbon and tassel.

The pink wrapped book is put inside a dark green box. The contrast is lovely.

I make this arrangement purposely so that which ever they choose to be theirs, they will still get both colors to enjoy.

The book is suitable for bedside reading or for the coffee table. The box is multi-purpose. My hope is that, they will enjoy and benefit from my gifts.

Surah Yasin Covers

Alin requested a set of Surah Yasin covers for her khenduri activities. She also requested the color ,...green. An opportunity for me go shopping,...yeah. I came across these 2 beautiful material. Bought myself a meter each, went home and start to work on them and I came out with these.

This first choice of material is velvet piece embroidered with flowy leaves and floral motif. I then decorated it with velvet ribbon with a tassle at the end. This will act as a marking tool, for the pages.

It took quite a while for me to figure out how to do this considering the thickness of the material. Honestly, I would like to avoid unnecessary bumps at the corners and foldings, so I decided to use a thinner material for the lining inside.

This is the second material. Pleasant combination of green and mustard stripes.

I hope I can get some ready for Alin. She need 30 pieces for a khenduri, she planned at the end of January. InsyaAllah.

Ayu

On the last week of December, Alia's friend,... Ayu came for a visit. She was carrying an interesting looking handbag. Caught my attention,... must make one,... but with a Brown Garden twist. After much thought, research and some sketches I came out with this design,.... thus I name it Ayu.

over the shoulder.

The leather trimmings and hardwares are very interesting and creatively used in the whole ensemble.
It was quite a job but I was happy with the results

I really enjoy the making of Ayu and I want to share it with you.

First I work on some sketches and figure out the best proportion in terms of length, width and height.

After I was satisfy with the proportion, I prepare the paper patterns

I was still in the mood of patchwork, so I decided to use all my remnants from the previous projects. No rules here, both warm and cold colors are patched together but I am still careful with the balance and distribution of colors.

I prepared the patchwork first. There's 3 different combination of colors.

Here I am tracing the patterns onto the leather.

Cutting was done with a sharp knife, along the traced markings.

All cut leather trimmings are prepared for stitching.
Ends of strap to be skived to avoid lumps and difficulties when sewing.

Straps are stitched with my faithful old machine. (Love it so much)

All required straps edges are stiched.
All together there are 33 straps long and short
The sling strap is the longest - 62" long.

Both sides of the bag are not the same. It was a bit messy sewing and unpicking, but I had fun. This color combination is for Alia.

Bag and Box

Last week I was away in Kampung Sri Batu, K.L. conducting a bag and box making class for Kemas. It was really an experience. The workshop is fully equipped with sewing necessities and this make my job easier and fun.
Altogether there are 14 students, and they are teachers themselves in their respective craft skill. With their knowledge in sewing, I managed to get them finish their project in the time given.

Here the ladies are preparing the material for the bags. I provided upholstery canvas for the bag and polyester-cotton heavy drill for the lining. I taught them pattern making and cutting, hopefully they can use it to create their design.

Sewing the pieces together.

I let them experiment with the tools to get the ideal result. The bags are halve-way done. At this point everybody was eager to see the finish product.

I let them trace and cut their own leather trimmings. This way, they experienced working with leather. Sewing here are done by hand, the machine did not produce nice stitching. Adjustments need to be done to the machine in order to sew leather.

Here the ladies are standing proud by their bags. All 14 totes are finished on time. I was extremely happy and captivated with the outcome.

The 3rd day was box making day. I taught them to measure, cut, constuct and clad. The process was quite messy and we were running out of time. All the ladies manage to finish their boxes but they still need to practice the process again in order to get the best result.

Draw-string

Finally!! I got it done.

This my new handbag, to replace Fav that I have been carrying everywhere.
Draw-string is one design that I've been wanting to do. Very happy with this one but little adjustments to be made.

Here, I used beige leather for the base, side strap, shoulder strap,draw-string and binding.

I'm not to excited with the color and Jasmine said it look sad and dull. Well,...... this my prototype, with new adjustments and fantastic material (already in mind) I'm sure it's going to be good.

Many draw-string design that I can imagine, but I'll stick with this one for a while. I'll just play with colors and proportion.

Bag is 17" L x 12" H x 5" W.
Quite spacious.

Brown Messenger

Made this shades of brown bag for Chah.
Simple rectangular patches with straight quilting lines. Just couldn't make myself try any other quilting design. Maybe I will do it to the next project. Already have an idea of another quilted bag. When? Don't know yet.

This bag is of the same pattern with the previous messenger bag, except this one have a full leather strap.
Will take it to K.L this week end. Finally Chah will get her bag.

This tote bag is a sample for a class that I'm conducting in K.L. next week.
It is made of thick upholstery with flat leather handles. Nothing fancy but the outcome is
smart and pleasing.
I've been busy preparing notes and materials for the class. Still have a little more to do, but I'm managing pretty well with Jasmine's help with the computer.

In the middle of this business, I'm also finishing a new bag for my trip. Something that I've putting on hold for a while. Will post it once finished.

Convertible

Been wanting so long to make this bag,...well at last it's done. Still the outcome is not like what I expected. Need lots of restructuring to improve the total look. The fabric treatment need to change, however the leather trimmings and base is satisfying.

Here, my lovely Jasmine, modelling the bag in a sling manner. Bag look a little bit large on this petite model.

Here, the bag is worn cross-body.

Bag measure - 12''L x 5" W x 14 1/2" H.
Leather trimmings are of coffee and grey suede.
Base is full grey suede leather.

Zips at the side, enables the bag to convert.
You can wear it deep or shallow.

When fold out, reveal the quilted lining (grey cotton contribution from Aida). Quilting design, something I pick up from the Vistana gatherings.

Looking forward to make the improved version, or maybe it'll be a little while longer. I'm already thinking of making a new design. Will post it as soon as I get it done.

Alia requested some bold colors for her bag,...so I manage to put together this combination.
Still the quilting is as simple as possible,.. just straight lines.
Leather is of dark coffee color. Hardwares are of brass and the sling strap is of 1 1/2" cotton woven strap.

Quilted Bag

Hi!!! At last,.. after a really long break from bloging, I am happy to post this new collection.
Been wanting to try a messenger bag, I think I am successful with this one.

4" x4" patchwork of soft colors quilted vertically with 1/2" intervals. Chose to quilt this way to speed up and the simplicity makes the bag pleasant to look at, considering the many component sewn together.

Lining is of green cotton completed with a zip-up pocket, open pocket and a h/phone slot.

Bag base is of coffee brown leather. Leather base contributes to hold the shape and durability.
All round leather trimming outlined the whole bag and envelopes the multicolored surfaces.
Long strap of woven cotton enables bag to be worn sling or cross body.

Now the bag belongs to Qila. Hope you enjoy it sayang.

Quilted top on my favourite Fav pattern.
Colors here are soft and earthly.
I use blue suede leather for the base to liven up the the patchwork body.
Quilting are vertical 1/2" intervals.
Shoulder strap and top trimmings are of coffee colord leather.

At...last I manage to post this blog,... been very laid back lately. My skirt project did not go smoothly as I expected. I only manage to have this done.

Colorful Japanese Swiss cotton sewn in contrast into 4 layered skirts.
Skirt is with full length lining,... also in contrast color.
Skirts was done to Layla's fitting,... hope it'll fit Arisya too.

I was shopping for songket sampin for Alia,.... to give to her New Zealand friends when I found this vintage looking, sweet pink songket with gold thread.

Made it into this beautiful box.

Box measures 30 cm x 23 cm x 8 cm.
A piece of sampin can clad 2 box of this dimension.

A group of us, mothers from the kid's school, pool in for a gift, for a friend who is going to perform the umrah. Green is the receiver's favourite color, so I put together this gift.

Since she's going with her husband, we provide for both. A piece of telekung for her and a piece of kain pelekat for him

I wanted to create a gift that will last, so I decided to make a box that she can use after the content is taken out.
Box lid is clad with mint green paisley printed canvas. Box bottom is clad with lime green textile suede. Box measures 30 cm x 23 cm x 8 cm.

Gift viewed from all angle.

I want that all angle look interesting and attractive. Here, I use fresh potted plants. They help to add freshness and crisp to the ensemble.

Hi,... it's been awhile since I last post. Well,.. I've been busy making more handbags. This time I'm reproducing my favourite design,...thus I call it Fav. There was a request from a friend, Siti ,.so I made Fav in 4 colors. Material are similar to my past products. In Penang,.. sources are limited and have not the time to hunt. Nevertheless.... I,m still satisfied with the results.

This particular bag I made with comments from Omar. He propose that a few leather trimmings on the bag would make it be more attractive . Bag was made with brown canvas that have sheen at a certain angle. Shoulder strap and trimmings are of dark coffee leather. Hardwares are brass.

Bag closes with a full length zipper. Bag measures 17" B x 12" H x 3" W. It's quite slim compare to my other designs.

Well this is my favourite of all. The color is versatile, design and size is just perfect to snuggle under one's arm. Bag measures 13" B x 11" H x 5 1/2" W. Leather shoulder strap and trimmings are dark coffee color. Hardwares are brass.

A unique color combination of azure and dark brown canvas.

Biege on dark blue canvas.

Rich velvety fabric of muted hues. Fabric design and colors suggest bohemian style.

Close up an the shoulder strap. A unique double layering of leather strap. Machine and hand stitched to get the effect required. Strap is 23 mm in witdh.

A whole 2 week production in view. Gonna take a break from bag,... getting into apparrels making for my 3 girls Alia, Jasmine, Layla and grand neices, Aj and Arisya.

This lovely bag is fully hand embroidered. The paisley motif was done in off-white, red and a touch of purple .
Embroideries here mainly are running stitches and french knots.
Bag measures 15" x 9" x 2 1/2". Magnetic closure with a tied bow.
Grey brown leather shoulder strap with a drop of 9"
Bag design is versatile. I wear it with anything, anywhere.

Another version of the same design. Also hand embroidered with paisley motif. Here I used white thread,.... sewn into candle wick stitches.
For the shoulder strap,... I used black suede leather. Bag closes with a magnetic black leather strap.

This version is simple and quaint. Bag was done with checked canvas. Bag closes with a magnetic clasp and a mint green cotton tied bow. The shoulder strap is of dark brown suede leather.

This version is neat and smart. Bag was done with off white canvas. Bag closes with a broad magnetic leather strap. Hardware are brass and antique

Last,... but not least is this one,.... made out of soft pink silk 'tenun pahang'. I was commissioned to make it for a Pahang royalty. It's quite a humble product for such occasion, but still I was proud of it.
For this bag, I seek the help of a friend for the wooden handle. It was crafted out of hard 'cengal' wood. I used tan suede leather for the trimmings and antique brass hardware. Closure is magnetic clasp with light brown/ soft pink tied bow.

Well,... my lovely sister, Kak Noy have this bundle of remnants from her first and maybe the last quilt. She was excited to join us in quilt making,.....enjoying the process.... browsing for design, shopping for material and endless coaching from seasoned quilters. Lots of giggles, happy moments with the Dahlan's quilting club.
She accomplished pretty well
until the babies came along. Sadly, her unfinished quilt is nicely packed away 'coz she have her hands full at the moment with her two adorable grandson Arman and Mikhail.

Remnants passed to me,... made into this bag.
Patches made of squares and rectangles arranged at random. No batting though, ran through stitching only on selected areas just enough to avoid floating.
Bag measures 17 1/2"L x 3" W x 12" H
Green nubuck leather trimmings and strap. Brass hardwares.

Kak Noy, I hope you"ll like this bag. It's very spacious,.... can load in all the stuff you need for your regular outing.

Another version of this big bag,... this time it is make of the velvety denim blue. Here I used tan colored leather,....hardwares of brass and gold.

Bag can open up really big by adjusting the pull strap. Extremely spacious for Lin,... who likes to carry everything,..... everywhere.

I've just completed this bag. This time I experimented with a more feminine and sweet shape. This is my prototype,... it was made with lots of little adjustment here and there. It turn out ok and the overall look is not bad. I'm excited and can't wait to try with different material.

The interior is relatively easier to make after I was done with the patterns. Bag is equipped with a full zip closure for better security. It opens up to a very spacious inside complete with a zipped pocket and a h/phone slot. A little adjustment to be made on the strap,... but I'll work that out on the next one.

Omar, my husband gave this bag to a visiting aunt from Satun, Thailand. He is always so proud of me and excited of my completed projects (that he likes to tell the world).
This aunt, Mak Nah is the youngest sister of my late father in-law. It's been so long since I visited that side of the family. InsyaAllah Omar will take us there this coming Syawal
I'm happy that my bag is going back with her,... so when she's carrying it around she'll think of me and Omar.

Last Friday, Alia decided to come home for the weekend to celebrate father's day with us. .As any mom would be, I was delighted. But our plan did not materialized 'coz papa have to work,.... ( a brain storming session) ...at Holiday Inn, Batu Feringhi. So, on Saturday,.. our plan was to go the hotel,..... Layla can use the swimming pool and we can picnic by the beach.

We bought some fruits to take along. It's fruits season now ,....durian, mangosteen, rambutans and
many more,.......Here I am with Ayu, Alia's friend from Shah Alam, at Batu Lanchang market.

My Layla, chilling out on a hot day in the pool. Not a good swimmer but getting close to it. She's 10 years old yesterday.

My 3 lovely girls having lunch by the beach. Ohh.... how they have grown,..... Alia, Jasmine and Layla. Almost too fast. Alia already working, Jasmine in form 2, Layla is 10. How I miss them being babies.

Oh well anyway, ... the sound of the wave and the caressing wind almost make me sleep, but the beautiful scenario was too good to miss.There I was cutting some pieces for a new project and Alia was making a friendship bands.

We planned to stay till late, but it was getting boring 'coz papa could not join us. Then we thought we could do much more at home, so we kiss papa goodbye and home we go.

Indian inspired

This lovely bag was created when I was into embroidery. My craze at this moment was Indian inspired motifs. I just love the fluid lines and the interpretation of flora.

I used raw Indian silk,... of turmeric yellow. The embroidery are just simple lines done with darning stitches, whipped running stitch, outline stitch, french knots and a few self invented stitches. They are done in different thickness of azure blue and beige.

Here,....the rattan handle is wrapped with embroidery thread with colors that complement and enhances the total look. Tie-bow closure contributes a less formal appearance.

I wear this bag with anything from 'baju kurung' to jeans.

Bag measures 18" L x 9 1/2" H

Quite spacious to house everything including Layla's nintendo d. s occasionally.

at last..... this quilt is finish.
I have been too busy with other things that I have abandon this quilt for quite long time.
Again here,...... Alia help me with the quilting,..... along the border.

Hand quilted 1/2" intervals into the square.
Circular lines with 3/4'' intervals on the border that meet
into a 3/4 circle at the corners.
Finish off with 1 1/8" binding of mustard fabric.

Just love the surprising results of working with remnants. Colors are vibrant and alive.

This quilt hold many memories of the girls growing up. The remnants are collected through out the time when I was sewing dresses for my Jasmine,Layla and grand nieces.

This beautiful box was made in 2008. A friend request a 'hantaran' for her sister in-law.
........so I made her these

Box was filled with forrero and a bouquet of silk and satin tiny roses.

Simple..... yet very impressive.

This is one of my earliest creation. Material is of Thai and Indian silk. I like to work with remnants....., coz the end result is always surprising.
When I did this bag I have no supply of leather or any hardware, so
the strap and closure was made of Indian silk.
This bag was given to a friend.

This bag was completed with the help from my darling daughter Alia.
For this bag, we decided to arrange the colors accordingly.The effect is more neat and proper. I like to carry this bag with baju kurung.

Now I have change the strap with suede leather handle, but I still maintain the closure.... tie-knot of black Thai silk.

Comprises of 140 pom-poms
Measures....... 9"x 3 3/4" x 9"

This bag was also made of silk remnants. I like the effect of the random arrangement of colors. It gives a more casual look. This one goes with anything, I like to wear it with jeans and t-shirt.

Measures... 13" x 4" x 9 1/2".

I have upgraded it with bi-color leather strap. The closure is now leather strap with magnetic clasp. Inside lining consists of h/phone and handy pocket, also a zip-up pocket for better organizing.

Feel like making new bags and this time the design direction was focused more on creating a utility bag. The visual language gives a relax, casual yet appropriate for business use.. Bags was made of beautiful upholstery tapestry. Shoulder handle are made of nubuk and suede leather. Handle design is totally new and original. Hardwares are of semi-antique and gold finished.

These beautiful papers are handmade out of banana stem pulp.They are being produced in Kg. Perlis in Penang.
